Steve
Beard spends most of his time writing, speaking, and scratching
his head about pop culture and spirituality.
He is the creator of Thunderstruck.org.
His writing and interviews often appear in Good News, Risen, National Review Online, and BreakPoint.com.
His articles have also appeared in Challenge, Charisma,
Discipleship Journal, The Jessamine Journal, The Washington Times,
and World magazines, as well as popular
websites such as The Phantom Tollbooth (tollbooth.org), Spirituality.com, Beliefnet.com,
RockRebel.com, Ginkworld.net, RelevantMagazine.com, and Next-Wave.org.
He
is a contributing author to Spiritual Journeys:
How Faith Has Influenced Twelve Music Icons (Relevant, 2003)
where he wrote chapters on Bono, Johnny Cash, and Al Green.
Beard also wrote the forward
to Steve Stockman's book, Walk On: The Spiritual Journey
of U2 (Relevant Books, 2001).
In
the last few years, his professional travels have led him to
England, India, Argentina, Brazil, Singapore, Malaysia, and
Cuba
Prior
to moving to Kentucky's bluegrass country in 1991, he served as research assistant
at the Institute on Religion and Democracy and the Ethics and
Public Policy Center. Both institutions are located in Washington,
DC.
He is a member of Am Herratz, a
fraternity devoted to gluttony, tomfoolery and mad-capped hijinx.
While
growing up in southern California, Steve played a big, fat upright
bass in a rockabilly/swing band called The Belvederes.
Steve lives outside Lexington, Kentucky with his wife, Michelle, and their son, John Paul, and their dog Murry. You can read an article that Steve wrote for John Paul when he was only four days
old. When
he was a wee lad, he was featured in one full-length motion
picture — Flying Changes — written,
directed and produced by our friends Brady and Andrea Nasfell.
