Blink-182's Tom Delonge talks straight to Alternative Press about God and The End

Thunderstruck Juke Joint

In the July issue of Alternative Press, Blink-182's Tom Delonge drops his infamous potty talk and raps straight about his feelings about God, September 11, and The End. Greg Heller interviewed Delonge regarding the release of a new disc from his side project, Box Car Racer, where he teams up with fellow Blink-182 bandmate Travis Barker and two straight-edgers—Dave Kennedy and Anthony Celestino. The following segments were taken from the interview.

Alternative Press: This album is peppered with references to God. Did September 11 bring you closer to Him? Did you question your conviction?

Tom Delonge: I didn't question at all. I know there is a God, and I know there is a reason why we're here. But we live on a planet where the international pastime is tribal warfare. It just seems so…immature and malicious. What I hope for is that everybody in the world would connect a little bit more to their spiritual side. That's 80 percent of what I'm all about. The other 20 percent is diarrhea talk.

Alternative Press: What do you think God was trying to tell us on September 11?

Tom Delonge: The Bible says in Revelations that on our path to Armageddon, first the Israelites will get their land back. That happened in 1947. Then it says that the new Babylon will fall. Babylon was the commercial trading center of the world in the Old Testament, and the new commercial trading center was the World Trade Center. So maybe this is the beginning of Armageddon. That would be kind of sad, wouldn't it?
